Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed.
1 Corinthians 12:1

In 1 Thessalonians 3:2 Paul also says “…and we sent Timothy, our brother and God’s co-worker in the gospel of Christ, to establish and exhort you in your faith that no one be moved by these afflictions.”

It is important that we understand, as Christians, the significance and importance of being an example and encouragement to our brothers and sisters. We must be generous, spiritually speaking, in sharing our gifts in order to benefit others. Paul encouraged the Thessalonians “…to abound (be abundant, be plentiful) in love for one anotherso that The Lord may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father…”.

In Ephesians 4:16 we understand that whole body is fitted and held together by every supporting ligament; and as each individual part does its work (when each part is working properly), the body grows and builds itself up in love. When we play our part in supporting, encouraging, comforting, inspiring, etc. one another we will grow and build (make stronger or more intense) in love.

Therefore, it is incumbent on us to earnestly desire spiritual gifts as instructed in 1 Corinthians 12:31 and 14:1 and in our pursuit, ensure that the bedrock of our desire and motive is love.
